
Leonard Bernstein
Leonard Bernstein (1918–1990) was an American conductor, composer, pianist, music educator, and humanitarian. One of the most prodigiously talented and successful musicians in American history, he was the first American-born conductor to receive international acclaim. Bernstein served as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic and conducted the world's major orchestras. As a composer, he created works ranging from the Broadway musical West Side Story to symphonies, choral works, and film scores. He was also a passionate educator, known for his televised Young People's Concerts.
